What to know

  • Decide whether visitors, residents or both are your customers, and report them separately.
  • Expect absentee owners and property managers among customers for property services.
  • Allow for the one-hour difference with Tweed and northern NSW during daylight saving.
  • Write booking information that works for short-stay visitors and locals alike.
  • Ask for a written test plan naming suburbs, services and outcomes.

Define the local problem before requesting proposals.

The government profile names Surfers Paradise, Southport, Upper Coomera and Robina as urban centres. It identifies tourism, construction, health-related knowledge industries, ICT, manufacturing, education and professional services among the region's industries.

Ask which urban centres the plan includes, why those areas fit and how resident and visitor needs will be distinguished where relevant. The geographic brief should reflect an actual delivery choice.

Local reference: Queensland Government Gold Coast and Hinterland profile. The profile is a Queensland Government summary of the region. The catchment advice that follows is our view rather than the government's.

Build a serviceable catchment within the wider coast.

Consider a dental practice serving a defined Gold Coast area. Its service pages should explain the available appointments and the route for suitable new patients. If the business also supports visitors, describe that service accurately rather than blending every enquiry into one audience. A coast-wide radius should be tested against the way patients can use the practice.

Build the geographic brief around the business's real catchment instead of one coast-wide radius. Distinguish resident demand from visitor demand where relevant. A dental practice should state the services and appointments available, rather than letting a broad tourism audience distort campaign performance.

For a Gold Coast company, inspect how each proposed engagement links search, advertising and the website. Ask whether the report distinguishes a contact from a booked service and how your team can supply that later outcome.

Visitor demand sits alongside a large resident market.

The 2021 Census counted 625,087 people in the Gold Coast local government area. Experience Gold Coast, citing Tourism Research Australia data, reports 2.4 million domestic overnight visitors spending $3.1 billion and 4.1 million day-trip visitors spending $634 million in January to June 2025, plus 636,000 international visitors spending $1.5 billion in the year ending June 2025.

Most local trades and health services will still depend on residents. Some businesses, such as urgent dental care, physiotherapy, mobile services and personal services, may also see visitors searching for help at short notice. The two groups search differently: a visitor wants availability today near where they are staying, while a resident is choosing a provider they may use for years.

Ask each provider how location targeting will treat people physically on the Gold Coast versus people elsewhere showing interest in it, and whether you need both. Ask for reporting that separates visitor and resident enquiries, for example by asking for a home postcode at booking, so a busy holiday period does not hide weak results among locals.

Apartments and holiday homes complicate the catchment.

At the 2021 Census, flats and apartments made up 21.7 per cent of occupied private dwellings in the Gold Coast LGA, with separate houses at 56.8 per cent. A further 26,794 private dwellings, 10.5 per cent, were unoccupied on census night in August 2021. Unoccupied dwellings can include holiday homes and properties between tenants.

For cleaners, tradies, pest controllers and property maintenance businesses, this means the customer is not always the person living at the address. An owner may live in Brisbane, Sydney or overseas and search for a Gold Coast service from there, while a property manager may book on their behalf. Body corporate rules and building access can also affect quoting in apartment towers.

Ask each provider whether your campaign should reach owners who live outside the Gold Coast, and how the enquiry form will capture who owns, manages and approves the work. Reports that mix owner, tenant and manager enquiries make it hard to see which group is worth paying to reach. Over time, repeat work from managers and owners may matter more than one-off jobs.

The border adds a time difference for half the year.

New South Wales observes daylight saving and Queensland does not. In the current cycle, NSW clocks moved forward on Sunday 4 October 2026 and return on Sunday 4 April 2027, so for those months Tweed and northern NSW run an hour ahead of the Gold Coast.

For a business serving both sides of the border, small details can cause friction. Opening hours on a website or business profile, ad schedules, booking widgets and call-back promises are usually set to one time zone. A customer in Tweed Heads booking a 9am appointment may assume NSW time. Trades should also check whether working across the border affects licensing.

Ask each provider whether NSW suburbs belong in your target area at all, which time zone ad schedules and booking tools will use, and how opening hours and appointment times will be shown to avoid confusion. Reporting by state is useful if the border area is a meaningful part of your work. Small mismatches here tend to show up as missed calls and no-shows rather than in campaign dashboards.

Running the general checklist for a Gold Coast business.

For the general proposal, measurement and contract questions, see our guide to choosing a marketing agency after a bad experience. This page is a local comparison method and set of questions, not an independent ranking of providers. Pulse Labs sells the kind of service described, so we are not neutral. Ask Pulse every question here too, including how it would separate visitor and resident results.

Your questions, answered

Who is the best marketing provider in Gold Coast?

The answer depends on whether you serve residents, visitors or both, and on how a provider measures suitable enquiries. A provider skilled in tourism campaigns may not suit a local trade business. Compare evidence, ownership and reporting. We do not rank providers on this page.

How can we test whether a provider understands this market?

Ask how the provider would tell visitor enquiries from resident enquiries in your reports, and whether your campaign should reach absentee property owners. A provider who understands the Gold Coast will raise these questions before discussing channels.

Should a Gold Coast business target tourists?

Only if the service suits people on a short stay. Visitor numbers are large, with 2.4 million domestic overnight visitors in the first half of 2025 alone, but a resident customer may be worth more over time. Test visitor targeting separately and report it apart from local demand.

How does daylight saving affect Gold Coast campaigns?

NSW observes daylight saving and Queensland does not, so from early October to early April the Tweed side of the border is an hour ahead. Check that ad schedules, booking tools and published hours make the time zone clear for customers across the border.

Who is the customer for property services in holiday apartments?

Often an absentee owner or property manager rather than an occupant. About one in ten Gold Coast private dwellings was unoccupied on census night in 2021. Ask your provider whether to reach owners outside the area and how to capture who approves the work.
