What to know

  • Allow for customers whose work rosters may keep them away from Perth for stretches.
  • Plan service areas around driving corridors, since most Perth commuters drive.
  • Give outer growth LGAs such as Kwinana, Serpentine-Jarrahdale and Swan their own test.
  • Separate resources-sector B2B demand from household demand in pages and reporting.
  • Ask for a written plan naming the suburbs and outcomes the first test will cover.

Define the local problem before requesting proposals.

The City of Perth identifies education and innovation, health and life sciences, and resources and energy as key sectors. Its investment discussion also addresses international connectivity and tourism infrastructure.

Ask which part of Perth the research describes and which areas the company can serve. Also agree how the provider and local team will exchange decisions across their actual working hours.

Local reference: City of Perth key sectors and industries. The City describes its own sectors and priorities. Turning that into questions for a marketing proposal is our analysis.

Define the catchment and the practical working relationship.

Consider a Perth professional-services firm seeking business clients. The website should explain the engagement and the buyer fit, while the provider’s communication arrangements need to suit the team that makes decisions. A local consumer practice requires a different service catchment. Both deserve an explicit plan rather than an assumption that one metropolitan audience fits every business.

Separate corporate professional-service acquisition from local household and patient demand. Confirm whether a provider's meetings and response coverage suit Western Australia. Measure the actual service catchment rather than treating the City of Perth and the wider metropolitan area as interchangeable.

Two provider examples to compare.

These examples illustrate the different scopes you may encounter. We reviewed the providers’ own service descriptions on 8 October 2026. The questions in the final column are ours. Inclusion is not a ranking, endorsement or verification of client results.

Provider services and questions to ask
ProviderWhat its website describesQuestion for your proposal
Enkindle GroupDescribes a Perth agency with founder-delivered SEO, Google and Meta ads, website work, email and SMS marketing.Ask how the proposed scope fits the team's delivery capacity and your own response and approval responsibilities.
Caffeinate DigitalDescribes Perth-origin performance marketing, websites and AI solutions, alongside software products it builds itself.Ask to see the relevant workflow and identify which software functions are part of your proposed engagement.

A Perth owner comparing these approaches should ask for a concrete workflow demonstration. Identify what is performed by people, what the software does, which tools are included and how decisions remain connected to the services the business delivers.

The resources sector reaches into Perth households.

In the 2021 Census, iron ore mining employed 27,060 Greater Perth residents, or 2.6 per cent of employed people. Among detailed industries, only hospitals employed more, at 4.4 per cent. Many of those workers are likely employed at sites far from the metropolitan area, which is a feature of the Perth market rather than an exception.

For household services, this suggests testing how roster patterns affect when people search, book and attend. A customer who is away for a week or two may need online booking, clear lead times and follow-up that does not assume they can call back tomorrow. These are hypotheses to check against your own booking data, not established facts about any one customer.

For businesses that sell to the resources sector, the buying process is different again. Purchases may involve procurement teams, supplier prequalification and long approval cycles, and the website needs to answer those buyers' questions. Ask each provider whether its experience is with consumer enquiries, B2B buyers or both, and how it would keep the two separate in campaigns and reporting.

Most Perth commuters drive, so corridors define catchments.

In the 2021 Census, 62.0 per cent of employed Greater Perth residents travelled to work as a car driver and 4.4 per cent as a passenger. Bus (3.0 per cent) and train (2.2 per cent) were much smaller, and 7.6 per cent worked at home.

In a city that moves mostly by car, a realistic catchment follows drive times along freeways and main roads rather than a neat circle on a map. A clinic near a freeway exit may draw from further away than one in a quiet street a few kilometres off the route. For tradies, the same corridors decide how many jobs fit in a day, and crossing the city for one call-out can erase the margin on it.

Ask each provider whether location targeting will be a radius or a list of suburbs matched to the routes your staff actually drive. Ask whether reports will show enquiries and completed jobs by suburb, so the area can be adjusted. Parking and access details also belong on the page when nearly everyone arrives by car.

Outer growth areas need their own test.

The ABS reports that Perth grew by 58,088 people in 2024-25, a rate of 2.4 per cent and the fastest of the capital cities. Six of the ten fastest-growing local government areas in Australia that year were in or just outside Perth: Kwinana, Serpentine-Jarrahdale, Swan, Murray, Dandaragan and Chittering.

Growth areas tend to have new residents looking for local services, fewer long-established competitors and limited search history to plan from. In our view that makes them worth testing separately rather than folding them into a metropolitan campaign. A practice or trade business on the fringe may find its realistic market is the surrounding estates, while a business in an established suburb may decide the fringe is too far to serve.

Ask the provider whether it would build location pages for growth areas only where you can deliver, how it would judge results where there is little baseline, and how long it expects before the data supports a decision to expand or withdraw. A growth-area test that is never reviewed tends to become a permanent cost.

Using the general checklist with a Perth shortlist.

Our guide to choosing a marketing agency after a bad experience holds the full checklist for proposals, reporting and contract terms. This Perth page adds local questions to that method; it does not rank or endorse providers. Pulse Labs provides the kind of service this guide discusses and so has a commercial interest. Ask Pulse the same Perth questions you ask everyone else.

Your questions, answered

Who is the best marketing provider in Perth?

There is no single answer for Perth. A supplier to the resources sector, a northern-corridor tradie and a CBD professional firm need different skills from a provider. Compare evidence of relevant work, account ownership and how suitable enquiries are measured. This page is not a ranking.

How can we test whether a provider understands this market?

Ask the provider how it would set the catchment for your location, given that most Perth commuters drive, and how it would treat the outer growth areas. A good answer refers to specific suburbs and travel routes rather than a single radius.

Do resources-sector work patterns affect Perth campaigns?

They may. Iron ore mining employed 2.6 per cent of working Greater Perth residents in 2021, second only to hospitals among detailed industries. If your customers include roster workers, test online booking and follow-up that suits people who are away for periods, and check your own data for timing patterns.

Should we target new suburbs on Perth's fringe?

Only if you can serve them well. Kwinana, Serpentine-Jarrahdale and Swan were among Australia's fastest-growing LGAs in 2024-25, but growth alone does not make an area profitable for your business. Test growth areas separately, with their own budget and success measures.

Is a radius around our address a sensible Perth target?

Usually it is a rough starting point at best. Because most Perth residents drive to work, travel time along freeways and main roads matters more than straight-line distance. A suburb list aligned with real routes is easier to measure and adjust.
